WHERE IT BEGAN

Our Beginning

Chelakkara Pravasi Friends – UAE brings together people from Chelakkara and its surrounding areas who live and work across the United Arab Emirates.

Our story began during the difficult days of the COVID-19 pandemic. A painful incident involving one of our own made a few friends realise how deeply loneliness, distance and uncertainty can affect people living away from home.

“No one should feel alone when there are people from home around them.”

Sometimes, all we need is someone to talk to, someone who understands, or simply someone who is there.

That thought brought together a few friends and planted the first seed of what would later become Chelakkara Pravasi Friends – UAE.

FROM A FEW FRIENDS

From a Few Friends to a Growing Community

Our first gathering was a small meeting in Muteena, Deira. It was followed by another gathering at Zabeel Park, and later one in DIP.

With every meeting, the circle grew.

A friend brought another friend.
One family connected with another.
Old friendships were renewed, and new ones began.

What started with the efforts of just a handful of people slowly became a larger community.

By 2nd December 2022, the group had taken on a more active and organised form. Today, that small beginning has grown into a vibrant network of nearly 400 members and their families across the UAE.

MORE THAN A GROUP

A Little Piece of Home, Away From Home

Chelakkara Pravasi Friends is more than a WhatsApp group. It is a space where people can reconnect with familiar faces, build new friendships and bring their families closer together.

For many of us, years may pass without meeting childhood friends, neighbours or people we once saw every day back home.

Then, unexpectedly, we meet them again — not in Chelakkara, but here in the UAE.

Those moments of reconnection are what make this community special.

Through family gatherings, cultural celebrations, social activities and community events, we create opportunities to meet, celebrate, laugh, share and build memories together.

OUR PURPOSE

Connected by Friendship. United by Our Roots.

Our journey is not about numbers alone.

It is about connection.

It is about keeping friendships alive, bringing families together, supporting one another and carrying a little piece of home with us wherever we go.

We hope to remain a community where old friendships find new life, new friendships find a beginning, and no one feels too far away from home.

From a few friends to nearly 400 members, our journey continues with the same spirit with which it began:

No matter where we are in the UAE, one bond continues to bring us closer — our shared roots, our friendships, and the place we call home.
